Dancers in disguise are a common religious tradition of many tribes. There are four main types of costumes, defined by the roles they are enacting: those portraying deities or spirits of Nature, who receive scarifies in order to ensure fertility of the land and of the people embodying ancestral spirits, those transfixing the spirits through their dance and those performing mainly as entertainers.
